What we would like:

If you are donating a quilt top, please try to also donate the fabric for the backing and binding. Backing should be 3 inches bigger than the quilt top on all 4 sides. Binding should be 2 ½ inch strips. The guild will provide the batting.

Sizes needed:

A crib size mattress is 28 x 52. A crib quilt can be from 36”- 40” wide, to about 60” long. The quilt can be for a boy, or a girl, or neutral. Please pick one. Less boy quilts are donated, so they are always appreciated.

A lap quilt is about 36” wide, to 45” or 48” long. Again, lots of people in nursing homes are men and many are veterans. Quilts donated to nursing home and re-hab facilities are often given out on birthdays, or to make the holidays more festive. Many in long-term care facilities are rarely visited. These gifts are special to them.

A good size for a fidget quilt is standard placemat size, longer than it is wide – about 14” x 18”. Everything on a fidget quilt should be firmly attached, and 100% washable.

What to do with your charity quilt or quilt top:

If you complete a quilt top that needs to be quilted, please hand it in to the charity table at the monthly meetings. Someone will volunteer to quilt it. A complete quilt should have both the backing and binding.

Lastly, these quilts are gifts and go out with the guild label on them. They should be of the same quality as a quilt you would give to a member of your family. (This does not mean you can’t make a “scrappy” quilt). It does mean that we should be proud to donate them.

Some of the places we donate our quilts:

Memorial Memory Care, Springtree Rehab and Nursing, Broward Re-hab and Nursing, Kids in Distress, Kidz Korner, Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Broward General Hospital, ChildNet.
